Photoshop Sphere Tutorial

Photoshop Sphere Tutorial

http://taffbryn.blogspot.com/2012/06/glass-ball-tutorial.html

This tutorial taught me how to create a clear ball or orb. It started with the elliptical marquee tool and filled it with a light grey, opacity was very low so it appeared to be clear. To add the dimensions and shadows I used the paint brush and outlined the top with black, bottom with white and then changed the opacity to low. You do this twice, on two different layers. I learned how to make the shadow bend for a real sphere shadow by going up to Filter>Distort>Spherize. This made the shadow bend and the words in the center of the ball seem distorted. I really enjoyed this tutorial and feel like I  would know exactly what to do if I tried it again.

Photoshop Spheres
Sketched Spheres

I like my illustrator spheres better than my photoshop spheres. I think using illustrator's gradient tool made it look cleaner cut and more realistic. The spheres created with photoshop look more pixelated and not as 3D as the others. Also, Illustrator was easier to do it in than photoshop. I really enjoyed making my Illustrator tutorial of an apple because it looks very cute, realistic and cartoony. I learned in photoshop, that you can create a gradient circle without using the ellipse tool and creating a shape. I learned how to use the elliptical tool and fill it with a gradient.

Google Logo Research

Google Logo

In 1996, Google was nothing more than a research project at a college called "BackRub". It wasn't until years later that they came up with the name "Google" after misspelling the googol (=the number one with a hundred zeros behind it). No one knows where the original logo came from or who made it until Sergey Brin (1998) made a newer version. Then in 1999, there was new logo inspired by the one of "Yahoo!".
They used all primary colors and two secondary color in every single one of their 1500 different sketches for the logo. They did this pattern/color scheme to send the idea that "Google doesn't follow the rules, not even of the color wheel."

Plausible Impossible

Plausible Vs. Impossible

Gus Goose runs so fast that the chair seems to vibrate with his impact. The Plausible is that if you sit down hard enough or fast enough the chair can tip or move because of the impact. Its impossible because the chair wouldn't really vibrate back and forth no matter how hard you sit down. It might tip over or sway back in forth, but it won't shake the entire seat along with the thing sitting in it.
As Gus Goose shuffles the bread and salami, it makes a wonderful and very large sandwich. It's plausible you can shuffle thin, flimsy objects: such as bread and salami. It's impossible because in reality, you can't really shuffle bread and salami. The bread would most likely fall apart or not spring up and down as much as a deck of cards would do.
As much as everyone would love to knit their spaghetti into a lovely sweater before the ate it, but it's not quite so easy. It's plausible though, because in theory you could knit spaghetti. It has the same shape as yarn has along with the stringiness of it. It's impossible because you can't really knit spaghetti because its spaghetti and not yarn and it most likely would not stay together. Its also very unlikely for it to all be one giant string of spaghetti.
Gus Goose is dipping his bread into Donald's coffee and soaking it up for a little extra flavor. This is plausible because bread is absorbent and if you dipped in coffee some of it would soak up into the bread. Its impossible because the bread would not fill it's self up with all the coffee in the cup. In reality, there would still be coffee left and only the piece of the bread that was dipped would be filled up with the drink.
After Donald feeds Gus Goose the meat that says "How to get rid of Hungry Relatives", Gus's stomach starts to go crazy. This is plausible because your stomach can make crazy noises, even some sounding like a dark barking. It is impossible because you can't actually have a barking hot dog in your stomach that makes you bounce around the house after a cat.

Character Animation

Character Animation

My character is a Pig with super powers--but more like just a Pig with a cape. When drawing my character, I wanted to make something cute, funny and endearing. I gave him some glasses so he would look a little "nerdy" and sweet.
I had to touch up a lot of rough edges in photoshop with my character, but in the end he looked pretty good. I didn't know how to flip the legs around so he would be walking the right way, but with the help of Wyatt Fowler, I figured it out. I think that I have gotten the concept of keyframes down for the most part. I didn't really focus on the timing with making the legs move, I focused more on making all the movement look as natural as possible.

The three things I learned with my Character Animation was how to make movements look natural, understood more about the pin-points and how to make other objects move with them, and how to convert a drawing into something much more! If I could fix anything it would be making the cape's movement a little more consistent and natural. I really liked this animation because you could be as creative as needed and take what we already learned and add it to make something completely our own.

After the critique on Friday I noticed that my size was off and my cape started moving a little later than it should have. I also noticed that people really like the creativity and dorky-ness of my drawing along with the natural movement of the walk.

Personal Logo

Personal Logo

My logo represents me in many different ways: my favorite colors and a family tradition all put into one little graphic. I made a dreamcatcher because my Mema has always believed that one part of it will catch your bad dreams, and the other part will catch your good dreams and hold them until they're ready to come true. The circular part of it represents eternity, unbrokenness and the cycle of life. I used a blue gradient for my name because blue represents dreams, purity, and belief. I learned how to use the pen tool really well while doing this project and many others. I also used the pencil tool along side the pen to make the feathers. I looked up how to give the feathers a certain effect/texture and did it on my own. The only thing I don't love is where the outer glow (on the inner piece of the dreamcatcher) seems to cut off part of the yarn for the feathers. I really enjoyed this project and the ability to create something completely your own, freely. I sketched a couple different logos in my sketchbook before moving into illustrator. From there, I just moved along in the general direction that I liked, and simply let the creativity flow.

Multiplane Animation

Multiplane Animation

My multi-plane animation is of a city/skyline. The buildings towards the back are much darker and less detailed than the buildings up front. I really enjoyed this project because it was using a lot of skill sets that I was good at, and I also really like creating things such as landscapes. I learned how to merge layers with their layer styles in order to import them all into AfterEffects. The only thing I don't really like about my project is how the leaves look like they are just floating through the air other than actually blowing in the wind. I also learned how to make each layer look like it was moving at a different time and at a different place.
